The goal of the The HUB is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information. This goal is accomplished by providing intellectual and physical access to materials in all formats; instruction to foster competence; by stimulating interest in reading, viewing, and using information and ideas; and by working with other educators to design learning strategies to meet the needs of individual students. Materials are selected to enrich and correlate with the school curriculum as determined by Sycamore Community Schools.
Students can use the HUB anytime between 7:00 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. No pass or sign in is required before or after school. Students coming to the HUB during study hall must report to their study hall first and obtain a pass from their teacher.
All students must sign in at the front desk upon entering the HUB and sign out before leaving. The HUB staff reserves the right to restrict the number of study hall students allowed in the media center at any time during the school day, if necessary.
The HUB is a wonderful collaborative space and is used continually throughout the day by classes. Proper behavior is important when there are so many students in one room. Any improper behavior by study hall students will be handled by the HUB staff and could result in a student losing their privilege to visit the HUB during their study hall.
Books can be checked out for a 3-week period. E-books and audio books can also be checked out when available for a 3-week period. All materials may be renewed as long as there is no waiting list.
There is a five-cent fee per day per item for overdue materials. Students/families will need to pay for lost or damaged materials.
