The AVES Hangar offers a unique volunteer opprotunity at the High School for parents. It is one of the few ways that you can consistently interact with students in this type of role.
The store is open Monday-Friday before school (6:45 to 7:20 a.m.) and at lunchtime (11:30 a.m. to 12:40 p.m.). It is also open for certain evening and weekend events, known as "Bonus Hours". This year, we are also considering doing sales at about 6- 10 events, where we will do "mobile sales" outside of the store. Typically, we have 2 people work per shift.
The Aves Hangar is staffed by a part-time manager, volunteers from the PTO, and students from the Sycamore Work Study + Transition program. The AVES Hangar is the main fundraiser for the HS PTO and proceeds are used for PTO events, activities and donations to SHS staff requests that directly benefit the school.
Volunteers conduct sales at the cash register, assist students and other customers with selection, and help with inventory and special events. The store features a wide selection of Aves sports and spirit wear, other Sycamore branded novelty items, required reading books, and school supplies/essentials.
An on-site 2-hour training is required over the summer. Additionally, all volunteers must be HS PTO members. It's a fun environment and a great way to give back to Sycamore!
