Early Entrance
Kindergarten Early Entrance allows younger students access to challenging learning opportunities. This process is equivalent to grade acceleration, with comprehensive and stringent requirements. A team reviews each applicant to determine if early placement is beneficial, considering:
- Exceptional scores on cognitive tests
- Advanced reading and math skills
- Advanced oral language and vocabulary
- Advanced social skills and task focus
- Emotional maturity
To apply, complete the Kindergarten Early Entrance Application and one copy of the Kindergarten Readiness Checklist. A second checklist can be filled out by another knowledgeable person, like a pediatrician or preschool teacher. Return these materials to your child's prospective school, addressed to the school psychologist.
For questions or to discuss the process, contact the building principal or school psychologist. Submit requests for early entrance testing to the building principal, who will coordinate testing with the school psychologist. All testing is completed before the school year begins, and applications must be submitted by August 1 to ensure timely assessment and potential attendance on the first day of school.
