Executive Assistant to the Treasurer

The Treasurer’s Office oversees the financial operations of Sycamore Community Schools and helps ensure that district resources are managed responsibly, transparently, and in support of student learning.

In Ohio, the Treasurer serves as the school district’s Chief Financial Officer and reports directly to the Board of Education. The Treasurer works closely with the Superintendent, Board of Education, and district leadership team to provide accurate financial information, evaluate available resources, and support informed decision-making.

The Treasurer’s role extends beyond accounting. As a fiscal leader and adviser, the Treasurer helps safeguard the district’s financial health, manages its financial and capital assets, communicates the district’s financial position, and ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, Board policies, and professional standards. This work requires sound judgment, collaboration, transparency, integrity, and a strong commitment to ethical stewardship of public funds.

Financial Operations and Accounting

The Treasurer’s Office is responsible for maintaining the district’s financial records and managing its day-to-day financial operations. These responsibilities include:

  • Accounting and financial reporting

  • Payroll and employee benefits

  • Accounts payable and accounts receivable

  • Purchasing and procurement

  • Cash management and investments

  • Grant and fund accounting

  • Debt and capital asset management

  • Coordination of financial and student-data reporting

  • Preparation for annual financial audits

  • Compliance with local, state, and federal requirements

Through internal controls, established procedures, and regular financial monitoring, the office works to protect district assets and ensure public funds are used appropriately.

Budgeting and Financial Planning

The Treasurer leads the development and administration of the district’s annual budget and long-term financial planning. This includes monitoring revenue and expenditures, preparing financial projections, identifying emerging financial trends, and helping district leaders understand how financial decisions may affect current and future operations.

The office also prepares the district’s five-year forecast and other required financial reports. These tools provide the Board of Education, district leadership, staff, and community with a clearer understanding of the district’s current financial position and anticipated financial outlook.
