Media Center

  • The goal of the media center at Sycamore  Junior High School is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information. This goal is accomplished by providing intellectual and physical access to materials in all formats; instruction to foster competence; by stimulating interest in reading, viewing, and using information and ideas; and by working with other educators to design learning strategies to meet the needs of individual students. Materials are selected to enrich and correlate with the school curriculum as determined by Sycamore Community Schools.

Students can use the media center anytime between 7:30 a.m. and 3:15- p.m. with a pass from the teacher. Before school, the pass can be from a parent. All students must sign in at the front desk upon entering the media center and sign out before leaving. The media center staff reserves the right to restrict the number of students allowed in the media center at any time during the school day, if necessary.  Language Arts calsses are scheduled into the Media Center every two weeks for choosing books, returning/renewing books, etc.

Books can be checked out for a 3-week period. E-books and auido books can also be checked out when available for a 3-week period.  All materials may be renewed as long as there is no waiting list.

There is a five cent fee per day per item for overdue materials.  Students/families will need to pay for lost or damaged materials.
