Our program is characterized by hands-on, inquiry-based learning that challenges each student to think and become a problem-solver. This is accomplished through both whole class and small group learning. All preschool learning activities help children build confidence as they learn to live, work and play with others.
Our curriculum is presented through the use of Thematic Units such as "Getting To Know You" and "The Farm" as well as classroom centers. Our curriculum is guided by "The Ohio Early Learning Content Standards."

Step Up To Quality Five-Star Rating
In recognition of a commitment to quality and an ongoing dedication to the learning and development of children, Sycamore Community Schools Preschool Program has received the Five-Star Step Up To Quality Award from the state of Ohio. This recognition is the highest the Ohio Department of Education awards to preschool programs throughout the state.
“This recognition affirms what we know about the high-quality service that is provided to our youngest Aviators,” said Frank Forsthoefel, superintendent. “This five-star ranking is a direct result of the talent, care, and servant approach of the professionals in our preschool program.”
Step Up To Quality (SUTQ) is a five–star quality rating and improvement system administered by the Ohio Department of Education and the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. SUTQ recognizes and promotes learning and development programs that meet quality program standards that exceed licensing health and safety regulations. The program standards are based on national research identifying standards which lead to improved outcomes for children.
The Sycamore preschool team worked together for two years to prepare for the SUTQ review, which included an unannounced on-site visit to evaluate the program.
“It was a total team effort. Everyone from administrators who provided the help and support we needed to our committed teachers and assistants who go above and beyond each day in the classroom,” said Heather Chaney, Preschool Coordinator. “We are proud to be the welcoming first step to Sycamore.”
