School Safety

  • The safety and security of our students and staff is one of our highest district priorities.

Sycamore Community Schools continues to be vigilant in our efforts to ensure the safety and security of every individual who enters our buildings.

We are thankful for our close partnerships with local law enforcement and first responders who support our efforts to maintain a safe and secure learning environment and continue to be directly involved in our ever-evolving crisis management plans.

Our Safe & Secure Schools Committee meets frequently throughout the year to improve our safety plans and conduct threat assessments. Membership is made up of district administrators, teachers, counselors, students, local law enforcement, and first responders.

While we cannot share the exact details of those plans for security plans, we wanted to share a few measures already in place:

    • All building doors are locked during the school day.
    • A visitor sign-in procedure that requires visitors to be buzzed into a secured area. We are in the process of adding a license/ID check-in procedure.
    • Safety drills including tabletop exercises, lockdowns, and full evacuation drills.
    • ALICE training for students and staff.
    • Each classroom is equipped with a window punch-tool in case of an evacuation.
    • Administrators supervise the hallways, the cafeteria during lunch and outdoor recess, and entrances and exits during arrival and dismissal.
    • Upgraded and functioning security cameras in our buildings.

officer payne meets with montgomery students Our high school and junior high have police officers who serve as School Resources Officers in the buildings full-time. Those SROs along with other local police officers regularly visit our schools to monitor and build relationships with our students. We also have an after-school monitor at Sycamore High School who supervises the building from 2:30-6:30 p.m.

In case of an emergency, do you know where to go to be reunified with your student?

    • Blue Ash Recreation Center (4433 Cooper Road, 45242)

As members of the community, did you know we have the following resource available?

    • Two student assistance counselors (along with our nine guidance counselors) who can provide help with the mental health needs of students.
    • Sycamore Schools is finalizing a partnership with Children’s Hospital to provide direct access to mental health care services. More information will be released in the coming weeks regarding this new program.

We need your help to keep our students safe. If you and your students see something, say something.  We strongly encourage you to have conversations with your students about reporting the suspicious behavior--or report the behavior to administration directly, or call or text the Ohio Safer Schools 24/7 Tipline anonymously at 844-SaferOH (844-723-3764)

Please look for additional information, including the upcoming State of the District video, as we continue to improve our safety plans. We look forward to always providing a safe learning environment in which students can reach their full potential.
