FMLA/Medical Leave

Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA)

The Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) is a federal law that allows eligible employees to take job-protected leave for certain family and medical reasons. An employee who has an illness or condition that will last more than 10 consecutive days should notify their immediate supervisor and email Human Resources @ humanresources@sycamoreschools.org for support and information.

What to Know

  • FMLA may be used for your own illness or to care for an immediate family member.
  • FMLA protects your job and health insurance while you are away but does not provide pay.
  • You may use your available sick, personal, or vacation days while on FMLA.
  • For absences shorter than 10 days, standard sick leave procedures apply.
  • Confidentiality matters: medical details should only be shared with HR, not supervisors.
