Early Entrance

Kindergarten Early Entrance

Kindergarten Early Entrance allows students to begin kindergarten before reaching the typical age, providing access to challenging and developmentally appropriate learning opportunities. Because this process is equivalent to grade acceleration, it involves a comprehensive and stringent review to determine whether early placement is beneficial for the child.

A team reviews each applicant’s information, considering:

  • Exceptional scores on cognitive assessments

  • Advanced reading and math skills

  • Strong oral language and vocabulary

  • Advanced social skills and task focus

  • Emotional maturity

To apply, complete the Kindergarten Early Entrance Application and Kindergarten Readiness Checklist. A second checklist may be completed by another knowledgeable person, such as a pediatrician, preschool teacher, or childcare provider. Submit all materials to your child’s prospective school, addressed to the school psychologist.

For questions or to discuss the process, contact the building principal or school psychologist. Requests for early entrance testing should also be submitted to the building principal, who will coordinate testing with the school psychologist. All testing is completed before the school year begins, and applications must be submitted by August 1 to ensure timely assessment and potential attendance on the first day of school.

The application and checklist can be accessed using the buttons on the right.
