Sycamore Rallies for Student’s Dream OSU Trip

Thomas Brown's Dream Experience Send-Off
Sycamore Community Schools

The Sycamore community came together in a powerful show of support at Symmes Elementary on January 16 to celebrate 10-year-old Thomas, a fourth-grader whose strength has inspired everyone around him.

Thomas, who has Down Syndrome and autism and has faced significant health hurdles, was the guest of honor for a surprise send-off celebration. It marked the beginning of a dream sports experience orchestrated by Dream On 3, a non-profit dedicated to making sports dreams come true for children with life-altering conditions.

The event began with a silent parade, where fellow fourth-graders lined the hallways with handmade signs and pom-poms, offering a visual tribute to their classmate. The energy quickly escalated as the celebration moved outdoors, where the Sycamore High School marching band and cheerleaders joined forces with Mr. Aviator, Dream On 3 representatives, and several Ohio State athletes for a musical surprise. Local police officers, sheriff's deputies, and firefighters then provided a formal escort as Thomas and his family departed in a limo van, bound for Columbus to serve as VIP guests of Ohio State University Athletics.

Highlights of the trip to OSU included:

  • A private meet-and-greet with the OSU Basketball team
  • VIP access to athletic facilities and practices
  • Special recognition during the weekend's athletic events

The journey was captured by local news stations from both Cincinnati and Columbus. Media coverage from WLWT, FOX19, and WCPO 9 showcased the Symmes send-off, while Local 12 and ABC6/FOX 28 provided an inside look at Thomas’s time on the OSU campus.
