Sycamore Earns 5-Star Rating on 2024 Ohio State Report Card
Sycamore Community Schools has once again achieved an overall 5-star rating on the 2024 Ohio State Report Card, marking the second consecutive year the district has earned this prestigious distinction. Sycamore is one of only seven local school districts to receive a 5-star rating and one of just 68 districts across the state.
“These outstanding results are a reflection of the incredible teamwork among our students, teachers, staff, and administrators,” said Sara Bitter, Board of Education President. “We are fortunate to have a community that values education and supports the growth and success of every child in the district.”
In addition to the overall rating, Sycamore Schools saw an increase in its performance index for the third year in a row, earning a score of 105.4, a 0.2 point increase over the previous year. This performance places Sycamore in the top 4 percent of districts statewide, tying for 22nd out of 607 districts.
“The five-star rating and continuous improvement in our performance index highlights our focus on academic achievement,” said Superintendent Chad Lewis. “It reflects the hard work and dedication of our students, staff, and families. Our teachers are providing exceptional learning experiences, and our students are rising to meet these high expectations year after year.”
The Ohio Department of Education (ODE) evaluates districts based on five distinct components: achievement, progress, gap closing, graduation, and early literacy, each rated on a scale of one to five stars. In the 2024 report card, Sycamore earned a 5-star rating in four out of the five components:
Achievement: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ (Significantly exceeds state standards)
This component represents whether student Grades 3-12 performance on state tests met established thresholds and how well students performed on tests overall.
Progress: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ (Significantly exceeds state standards)
This component looks closely at the growth of all students by comparing last year’s state test scores to their performance on previous state tests.
Gap Closing: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ (Significantly exceeds state standards)
This component looks at several data points to assess whether student subgroups are meeting state standards.
Graduation: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ (Significantly exceeds state standards)
This component evaluates the four-year and five-year adjusted cohort graduation rates. A 5-star rating reflects a graduation rate of 96.5% or more.
Early Literacy: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ (Exceeds state standards)
This component measures reading improvement and proficiency for students in kindergarten through third grade.
“Our focus has always been on meeting students where they are and providing the support they need to thrive,” said Rebecca Tompkins, Director of Curriculum and Instruction. “By staying committed to nurturing their individual growth and addressing their unique needs, high achievement is the natural result.”
As we celebrate this remarkable achievement, the district is diligently reviewing the data released today. Stay tuned for further updates regarding the individual ratings of our schools in the coming days.
