Sycamore Welcomes Two New Assistant Principals
Sycamore Community Schools is welcoming two new assistant principals at its elementary schools.
The Board of Education approved India Chambers as assistant principal of Symmes Elementary and Keena Westmoreland as assistant principal of Maple Dale Elementary at the May 5 meeting.
“We are thrilled to have Ms. Chambers and Mr. Westmoreland joining the Sycamore family,” said Chad Lewis, future superintendent. “They both bring a skill set filled with a focus on student growth, achievement, and the ability to intervene with struggling learners. They are passionate about helping students reach their full potential.”
Chambers will join new principal Jessica Ralston for the 2021-22 school year. She has over 12 years of experience as an administrator and educator. Chambers most recently has served as Director of Academics for Northside Preparatory Academy in Cincinnati. Previously she served as a math content specialist and 8th-grade math teacher at Coleman Middle School in Greenville, Mississippi. Chambers is the Executive Vice President of Rising Stars of America, a community-based charitable non-profit organization focused on education and literacy. She received her bachelor's from Depauw University in 2009, her Master's in Elementary Education and administration from Delta State University, and is currently working on her Doctorate at the University of Dayton.
“Ms. Chambers has a passion for students and education which enables her to develop positive relationships with students, parents, and teachers,” said Ralston. “We look forward to India joining our Symmes family.”
"I am so thrilled to work with everyone next year and beyond," said Chambers. "I greatly appreciate the warm welcome and am looking forward to being a part of such a strong community."
Westmoreland comes to Maple Dale Elementary with nine years of educational experience. He will be joining new principal Mindy Zellner on the administrative team. Westmoreland previously taught second through fourth grades at Fairfield West Elementary School, where he served on the Diversity Recruitment and Retention Committee and Fairfield West Diversity Alliance. Prior to that, he taught third grade at Foster Traditional Academy in Louisville, Kentucky. Westmoreland has also coached Girls on the Run, FIRST LEGO League, and basketball at Fairfield. He has also been involved in STARS Reading Camp, tutoring, and East Butler YMCA camp.
“I am very excited to join the Sycamore community. I have heard so many great things about the district and I’m honored to be a part of the team,” said Westmoreland. “I look forward to continuing to help the development of all students and continue the success that has been happening at Maple Dale.”
"Mr. Westmoreland brings a strong academic and curricular background to this role," said Zellner. "I look forward to working with him to put into place data-informed, problem-solving systems, increasing student growth and achievement for all students."
