Sycamore Students Qualify For State DECA Competition
Three Sycamore High School marketing students have qualified to compete in the Ohio DECA state competition after winning at the District Fall Conferences. The annual competition took place at The University of Cincinnati Clermont on October 12.
Four juniors participated in the competition this year. Yasmine Guedira placed first, Stephanie Hong placed second, Makayla Stover placed third and Kate Dunne placed fifth in the DECA District 6 Fall competition. The top three will advance to the Fall Leadership Conference where they will compete for the position of public relations state officer.
Sycamore High school's marketing class, led by Mark Steedly, competes annually with an organization called DECA, which prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management in high schools and colleges internationally. Each year, six state officers are selected or elected from competitions to lead Ohio DECA.
The competition asks students to complete a multiple choice test about the organization, write a press release, and present a short introduction. They are then asked to elaborate on their future career plans and marketing knowledge in a ten minute interview.
Congratulations to these students and we wish them good luck at the state competition.
