Singapore Delegation Visits Sycamore High School
Sycamore Schools’ innovative Adapted Physical Education program has gained international attention.
The Cincy World Affairs Council brought 16 delegates from Singapore to visit Sycamore High School on May 8 to learn more about the district’s inclusive swim classes. The group hopes to implement some of Sycamore’s programming with coaches and athletes and promote inclusiveness throughout Singapore.
The visit was made possible through the Department of the State’s Sports Diplomacy Program. For many, this is their first trip to the United States.
Sycamore’s Adapted PE program provides opportunities for special needs students grades 1-12 to engage in sports, physical education, and recreation based on individual student needs since 2009.
Along with daily physical activity instruction, the district holds three events annually that successfully integrate students with special needs and their same age peers without disabilities. These events include the Joe Nuxhall Miracle Field baseball event, Perfect North Slopes, and an Adapted PE Field Day within the Blue Ash community.
Paula Anstaett has led the program since its inception at the high school. In 2018, she was named the Ohio Adapted Physical Educator of the Year.
The delegates will be attending the 16th Annual Bill Keating Jr. Memorial Para-swimming Open.
