Sycamore Welcomes New Director of Support Services
Sycamore Community Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Zimmerly as the Director of Support Services. Zimmerly brings a wealth of experience in educational leadership and a passion for making a positive impact on students and the community.
“We are excited to welcome an administrator of Mr. Zimmerly’s caliber to our team,” said Chad Lewis, superintendent. “He has a diverse skill set that will allow him to assist in the efficiency of our operational departments while maintaining a focus on supporting struggling students in the areas of attendance and discipline. His background and skills will be a great compliment to the administrative team.”
Zimmerly has demonstrated his commitment to educational excellence throughout his career. He will be overseeing the district’s maintenance and facilities teams, as well as managing the remainder of our Master Facility projects, safety and security, and other additional student operations alongside Director of Business Operations Brad Lovell.
“Our operations team plays a critical role in supporting the incredible teaching and learning that occurs in our buildings each day,” said Lovell. “Mark's experience and leadership in both operations and building leadership will bring a unique perspective in helping support the operations of the district.”
In the 2022-2023 school year, Zimmerly served as an Assistant Principal at Northwest High School while also contributing to the Federal Programs Office at Northwest Local Schools. During this time, he provided support to the administrative staff while gaining a comprehensive understanding of the district's operations.
Zimmerly's leadership capabilities were further recognized this past March when he was appointed as the Interim Principal at White Oak Middle School, where he successfully guided the school through the remainder of the academic year.
Prior to this past year, Zimmerly has served as the Assistant Principal at Northwest High School since the 2015-2016 school year. During his tenure, Zimmerly demonstrated his dedication to student success by leading various professional learning community (PLC) groups focused on graduation rates, attendance, and performance index. He also facilitated weekly math data meetings and provided ongoing professional development for staff. In addition, Zimmerly played an active role in district-wide committees covering topics such as Student Learning Objectives (SLOs), district data analysis, high school redesign, and coordinated testing plans.
"I have always had a passion for education and believe in the positive influence schools have on their communities. My goal has always been to make the biggest impact on the largest number of students as I can,” said Zimmerly. “As the Director of Support Services, I am excited to take on this responsibility and make a significant impact on the lives of our students."
Zimmerly is replacing David Foster who retired at the end of the 2022-23 school year.
