Students Advance to National History Day Competition
Congrats to Sycamore High School's Mitch Radakovich, Matthew Schuetz, and Marshall Hall! These three Aves have advanced to the Ohio National History Day Competition.
The students were among 16 from Sycamore who competed in the Regional competition on March 17 at Hamilton High School. They will compete at the state level on April 30 at Ohio Wesleyan University. If selected, they will move onto the National contest at the University of Maryland in June.
Every year National History Day frames students' research within a historical theme. The theme is chosen for the broad application to world, national or state history and its relevance to ancient history or to the more recent past. This year's theme is Exploration, Encounter, Exchange in History. The intentional selection of the theme for National History Day is to provide an opportunity for students to push past the antiquated view of history as mere facts and dates and drill down into historical content to develop perspective and understanding. In addition, it opens up opportunities for students to think creatively about history.
