Sycamore Community Schools students achieved top awards in the Montgomery Women’s Club Creative Writing Contest.
Sycamore High School’s Kirsten Thomas won first place and Debasmita Kanungo achieved second place in the Short Story Category for Grades 9-12. Junior Maddie Schramm won second and senior Renee Foster placed third in the Poetry Category.
Sycamore Junior High’s Max Francisco placed third in the Short Story Category. In the Poetry Category, seventh grader Deeya Prakash came in first, eighth grader Brynn Gvozdanovic came in second, and Mariam Arveladze placed third.
Two Symmes Elementary students earned first place for their submissions. Second grader Kiran Makkad won for her short story and third grader Matt Goedde for his poem.
The first place winners in each category will move on to the state competition.
