Sycamore High School TPA Students Win At State Competition
Sycamore High School's Teaching Professions Academy (TPA) students recently competed in the Educators Rising state competition in Columbus, Ohio. Nineteen Sycamore TPA students entered 14 different competitions either individually or in partners/groups. Twelve students qualified for the National Educators Rising Competition in Phoenix, Arizona, in June by placing in the top five in their respective competitions.
The annual state and national Educators Rising conferences and competitions allow students to compete in a variety of events that are related to the profession of teaching. Students are able to showcase their skills in events like Public Speaking, Lesson Planning and Delivery, Researching Learning Challenges, and the creation of Children's Books, to name a few. Additionally, Sycamore was one of only 10 Honors Chapters in the state of Ohio.
In the state competition, Sycamore had one first place result - Karen Mellott and Kate Willis; two second place results - the team of Claire Hallock, Molly McDowell, and Erin McElroy; and Olivia Shuholm; and three third place results - the team of Sarah Adler and Megan Zimmerman, Uliana Metalitskaya, and Jasmine Male. Both Diego Palacios and Maxwell Shirley finished in the top five of their respective competitions.
