Sycamore Junior High's MathCounts team just brought home the state championship. The Aviator Mathletes placed first out of 33 teams at Ohio MathCounts competition in Columbus.
In the individual competition, eighth grader Rishi Verma placed first for the second year in a row. Verma will be on the team representing Ohio at the national MathCounts competition May 14-15 in Orlando, Florida.
The competition is a series of individual, team, written and oral math tests for sixth- through eighth-grade students.
The 10-member team qualified for the state competition after placing second at the Cincinnati Chapter MathCounts Competition in February.
During the local competition, Verma earned a perfect score, becoming only the second student in 27 years to achieve a perfect score in the local competition.
