Sycamore School Board Approves New Teacher Contract
The Sycamore Board of Education unanimously approved a new multi-year collective bargaining agreement with the Sycamore Education Association (SEA) during its Nov. 1 meeting.
The new three-year contract was overwhelmingly ratified on Oct. 30 by SEA members, which represents about 450 Sycamore teachers, counselors, school nurses, and media specialists.
“We believe the new contract is fair and equitable and will allow teachers to continue to focus on serving our students while also allowing us to maintain our commitment to our taxpayers,” said Frank Forsthoefel, superintendent.
The agreement includes a two-percent salary base increase in each of the first two years of the contract. In the third year of the contract, teachers will receive a $1,375 increase to their base pay. Employees will also be eligible for longevity step increases during the term of this agreement.
Both the Association and district administrators said they were happy to have reached an agreement. Negotiations began last April.
