SHS Students Present Flight Night December 1
A group of Sycamore High School seniors has planned the first ever Flight Night in hopes of filling the stands for our Sycamore High School men's basketball team.
While enjoying the tailgate, halftime show, t-shirts, and the rowdy crowd this Friday night just know Sycamore's own high school seniors were the ones to make it happen. These seniors are a part of a marketing program that involves DECA. This class, taught by Mr. Steedly, focuses on all aspects of business from marketing to finance even entrepreneurship. However, the main goal of this class is to prepare these students to be leaders for college and in their careers through a project-based learning approach.
The ideas for Flight Night not only originated but were also carried out by these seniors. Sycamore Athletics and Pro Camps gave them a single problem to solve: how to pack the stands for our basketball team? Students then presented their ideas to Aves Athletics and Pro Camps, who chose the best ideas. Students were then given not only the go-ahead but also the resources to make Flight Night happen.
This isn't the first time that these DECA students have been called upon this year. Students have also worked with local business such as Kings Island, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Heritage Village Museum, as well as Aviatra Accelerators. All these companies had different unique propositions for our students to solve. From how to promote events, logo creation, even promotions on all social media outlets, these students have done it all.
Through this project-based learning, students have been able to experience hands-on what the business world is all about. Not only has it helped open their eyes for the future but made their understanding of the material in class so much deeper. Simply because they now have the experiences to connect to the lesson.
Students can begin to take these business classes starting freshman year all the way up to senior year. To learn more information about DECA and all it has to offer please contact Mr. Steedly at email@example.com.
