Ohio Governor Signs Senate Bill 8 Regarding School Funding
Sycamore Community Schools recently received good news from Columbus with the passage of Senate Bill 8. The legislation temporarily restores a portion of tangible personal property (TPP) reimbursement lost in the most recent state budget. Sycamore was scheduled to lose $3 million this school year and $4 million in 2018-19.
“Sycamore will receive approximately $500 thousand in each of the 2017-18 and 2018-19 school years as a result of Senate Bill 8,” said Treasurer Beth Weber. “We are identified as a district that is highly impacted by the loss of TPP. While this is just a short-term fix, we will work on a long-term solution in the next state budget cycle.”
The district continues to work with local legislators on this issue. Senator Terhar was a primary sponsor on the bill. Representatives Dever and Brinkman, as well as Senator Wilson, are in frequent contact.
“We greatly appreciate the work of our legislators on this issue,” said Superintendent Frank Forsthoefel.
