Aves Theatre Student Publishes One-Act Play

Table For One Play

Sycamore Junior Sydney Weiss has taken high school theatre to the next level by writing her very own play. In addition to writing, she has also produced, directed, and on opening night, she managed stage lights and sounds.

Every year, Aves Theatre puts on student-directed one-act shows in the Spring. Weiss was sick of sourcing the internet for acts that fit into tight and restricting guidelines, so she decided to write her own. After working immensely hard on this one-act play, Weiss decided to contact Lazy Bee Scripts who happily opted to publish it.

“My inspiration came from the type of personalities showcased in my acting class,” said Weiss. “ We have a lot of people that are really good at comedy and big characters, so I knew we’d be able to pull off a comedy.”

Weiss’ original comedic play is called “Table for One”.

“It has seriously been so fun and rewarding getting to be both director and playwright,” said Weiss. “I’m so excited for the performance and will be sad when all of it is over.”

“I was so happy that she decided to write a play and that she took the initiative to submit it for publication.” said John Whapham, head of Aves Theatre.” The script is wonderful and she is doing a great job directing the piece as well. She is a wonderful student!”
