Athletic Director Phil Poggi Resigns From Sycamore Athletics

Sycamore Athletics Director Phil Poggi is resigning from the helm of Aviator Athletics.

The Board of Education accepted his official resignation during their meeting on February 20. Poggi will continue to serve our student-athletes through the remainder of the 2018-2019 school year. He is leaving Sycamore to pursue a career outside of education.

This is Poggi’s 14th year in athletic administration and his fourth at Sycamore High School with previous service at Kings High School and Aiken High School. As Sycamore’s athletic director, Poggi was in charge of 42 athletic offerings for grades 9-12.

"There are so many memories that I will cherish over the past decade in athletic administration but the ones that will stand out are those relationships that were built with student-athletes and coaches that will last a lifetime,” said Poggi.

In 2016, he was named to the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) Board of Directors as the Section 2 Representative. He was also named the 2014 Athletic Director of the Year by Southwest Ohio Athletic Director Associations.

“I am thrilled for Phil and his family as he pursues another passion,” said Doug Mader, Sycamore High School principal. “We are losing a phenomenal Athletic Director, the ultimate professional and a dear friend that I personally looked up to daily. I wish him nothing but the best in the future.”

“We thank Phil for serving our students and families during his time here. He has been a great contributor to our recent success. We wish him nothing but success in his new endeavors,” said Frank Forsthoefel, superintendent.

The district will immediately begin the process to identify and appoint a new athletic director for the 2019-2020 school year.
