Sycamore Schools Names New Aviator Athletics Director
Sycamore Community Schools is excited to announce Mark Harden as the new Director of Aviator Athletics.
Harden is currently the Athletic Director of Fairfield City Schools and is in his 28th year of working with student-athletes. He will join Sycamore Schools on July 1, replacing Phil Poggi who is resigning to pursue a career outside of education.
“It is truly an honor to lead this athletic program that possesses such a storied history and an even brighter future,” said Harden. “To me, this is such a tremendous opportunity and it is Sycamore’s extremely supportive community, administration, and elite coaching staff that made this the place I want to be. I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining the Aviator family and cannot wait to get started.”
Harden has served as Fairfield’s Athletic Director for the past 10 years. Under his leadership, Fairfield obtained the highest GMC All-Sport finish in over 15 years, reached the school’s first Final Four in boys basketball, and accumulated 16 GMC Championships overall. Harden also oversaw a $3.8 million high school stadium renovation in 2015.
Harden was also the Associate Athletic Director for Cincinnati Christian University while teaching English at Fairfield High School from 2005 to 2009. He also taught and coached Varsity basketball at Vandalia Butler High School, Tipp City Bethel High School, and Lakota Local Schools.
“Mark brings an incredible passion for student-athletes to Aviator Nation. His work is rooted in developing positive relationships with our athletes, coaches, parents and community,” said Frank Forsthoefel, superintendent. “It will be an honor to work with Mark and the high school staff to continue to raise Aviator athletics to elite levels.”
The Sycamore Board of Education approved Harden at the April 17, 2019 Board meeting.
