Sycamore Board Approves Contract Extension for Certified Staff

The Sycamore Board of Education approved a one-year extension to its collective bargaining agreement with the Sycamore Education Association (SEA) during their September 2 meeting.

The extension was ratified on September 1 by SEA members, which represents about 450 Sycamore teachers, counselors, school nurses, and media specialists. The agreement includes a one-percent salary base increase for the 2020-21 school year. Employees will also be eligible for longevity step increases during the term of this agreement.

“We are happy to have a new contract reached prior to the start of our Healthy Back to School 2020,” said Frank Forsthoefel, superintendent. “The agreement will allow teachers to focus on serving our students during an unprecedented school year.”

The agreement also establishes a Safe Schools Committee comprised of SEA-appointed members and district-appointed members. The committee will work together on solutions to potential issues that arise during the school year. 

“The Sycamore Education Association is pleased to have reached an agreement with the Board of Education,” said Danielle Scrase, SEA President. “We look forward to working collaboratively with the district on solutions to any issues around safety and health for our staff.”

Negotiations began last Spring but were delayed due to the COVID-19 closure of schools.

“The Board of Education truly values our teachers and certified staff and the impact that they make on academic achievement for our students,” said Melissa Weiss, Board president. “We are committed to continuing our work with SEA and its membership on a healthy, safe, and successful school year.”
