Sycamore Students Win National Scholastic Art Awards
Sycamore Community Schools students shined at the 2016 National Scholastic Art Awards. Of the 30 Sycamore High School students who advanced to the national competition, four received Silver Medals.
Sadye Goodman and Jessica Wei won awards in the Drawing & Illustration category, Stefanie Shindler won in the Photography division, and Hannah Kast won an award in Painting.
They were selected from more than 320,000 original works submitted from across America. The winners are invited to a three-day celebration of their remarkable accomplishment in New York City. The National Ceremony will be held at Carnegie Hall on June 2.
"This is such an exciting opportunity and another example of our fantastic Fine Arts programs," Frank Forsthoefel, superintendent, said. "We are so proud of these students and their teachers."
Sycamore High School students won a total of 97 awards at the Regional Scholastic Art competition which saw more than 5,500 submissions. Sycamore students earned a total of 30 Gold Key awards, 27 Silver Key awards, and 40 Honorable Mentions. The Gold Key winners automatically advanced to the national competition for judging.
