Sycamore High School’s Aves theatre welcomes you to their production of The Yellow Boat, November 5-7 at 7:30 p.m.
The play is based on a true story of David and Sonja Saar’s son, Benjamin. It recounts Benjamin and his family’s struggles as they fight hemophilia which later becomes the cause of the young boy’s development of AIDS. The story is told in an abstract way, with movement and colour being the key elements of the production. Heavy ensemble participation can be seen throughout the production - the cast depends on one another to successfully carry out the intense emotional movement.
“The Yellow Boat is a great representation of the Aves Theatre program as a whole,” John Whapham, director, said. “ I am excited for the Sycamore community to see the up and coming talent of Aves Theatre.”
The students have spent countless hours coming together to both design and build the set, additionally working on costumes under the supervision of Mrs. Zurlinden.
“Each and every person who is involved in Aves Theatre is a vital part of our productions,” said Whapham. “The students work together to create unforgettable memories and performances.”
Tickets can be purchased for $10 at avestheatre.org, during lunch in the SHS commons, and at the door before the show; however, it is recommended to buy tickets in advance to ensure seating. The emotional aspects of the play may not be suitable for young children. For more information contact John Whapham at (513) 686 1770.
