Sycamore Junior High Team Competes at Power of the Pen Competition

The Power of the Pen team from Sycamore Junior High achieved top scores in writing at the District Tournament on Saturday, January 21.

Seventh grader Kathryn Guo won 1st place out of 109 writers.  The eighth graders competed against 122 other writers with Rishi Verma placing 12th, Susi Kim placing 5th and Aaditi Lele placing 4th. The eighth grade team, comprised of Rishi Verma, Aaditi Lele, Susie Kim, Alex Ma, Atara Zmora, and Grace Zhang took home the first place team trophy after competing against 21 other teams. 

Power of the Pen (POP) is a statewide organization  committed to being the leading interscholastic program in written expression for 7th and 8th grade students.  They provide teachers with resources to foster the growth of creative writing as well as with a network to share ideas.  Furthermore, competitions are held for students at the district, regional and state level.  More than 7,500 students compete annually in POP competitions.
